Jonathan Jennesjö has quickly made a name for himself as a conductor on the Swedish concert and opera scene. While still studying at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he made his debut at Läckö Opera conducting Verdi's Macbeth, and has since returned to conduct Rossini's La Gazzetta and this summer, Offenbach's Fantasio.
Jonathan began his musical journey as a cornet player in the Salvation Army's brass band in Lidköping. The band was led by his father, who also taught him how to play the cornet. A change of instrument and further studies led him to Malmö Academy of Music, where he studied trumpet with Bo Nilsson, Gustav Melander, and Håkan Hardenberger.
After several years as a freelancer, a pandemic and a desire to deepen his musical knowledge led Jonathan to take conducting lessons with his friend Andreas van Tol. These lessons played a crucial role in his decision to pursue formal studies at the Royal College of Music, where he later gained valuable experience conducting orchestras such as the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Swedish Navy Band, the Royal Swedish Army Band, the Nordic Wind Ensemble, and the Wermland Opera Orchestra.
This spring, he is conducting performances of The Magic Flute at Folkoperan, where he has previously served as rehearsal conductor for a production of Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw. He is also conducting concerts with, among others, the Royal Swedish Navy Band and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra.
